CPE Compliance Disclosure:
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In many associations, member engagement is often treated as a marketing or programming function rather than a shared leadership priority. However, closing the gap between boardroom strategy and genuine member buy-in requires a fundamental shift: engagement must be understood not as what the association offers, but as the value members actually experience.
This roundtable discussion is designed for CEOs, Executive Directors, and senior leaders to explore how to move beyond offerings like advocacy, education, and networking to identify the real outcomes members seek. We will discuss where engagement gaps most often surface, why associations sometimes mistake activity for value, and how leaders living in the middle space between the board and the membership can better align strategic priorities with what members actually need. By reframing engagement as a shared organizational value, associations can move away from assumption-driven programming and toward member-informed growth.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Identify the distinction between association offerings and the outcomes members actually value
- Analyze where and why member engagement gaps commonly emerge within an association
- Evaluate current strategic priorities against actual member experience and participation patterns
- Formulate at least one practical, actionable shift to better align board-level strategy with member engagement
